Southern Stingrays: These graceful giants are the crown jewels of bowfishing. With wingspans reaching up to 5 feet, they're an impressive sight gliding across the sandy bottom. Stingrays can put up one heck of a fight once you've landed a shot, so be ready for some serious action on the other end of your line. We typically see the biggest rays from late spring through early fall when the waters are warmest.
Florida Gar: Talk about a blast from the past - these armored predators have been around since dinosaur times, and they look it! Growing up to 3 feet long, Florida gar cruise near the surface and make for challenging targets as they can spook easily. Their tough, scaly skin means you'll need a well-placed shot to seal the deal. We see gar year-round, but they're especially active during the warmer months.
Black Drum: While not as common as rays or gar, landing a big black drum is always a highlight. These bruisers can top 50 pounds and put up a serious fight. Look for their distinctive whisker-like barbels as they root around the bottom for crabs and shrimp. Fall and early winter are prime time for big drum in our area.
Mullet: Don't underestimate these smaller fish - schools of mullet provide non-stop action and are perfect for honing your skills. They travel in large groups near the surface, often jumping and skipping across the water. When we find a big school, it's like shooting fish in a barrel (literally). Mullet are plentiful year-round but seem to school up biggest in the late summer and fall.
There's something addictive about the combination of hunting and fishing that keeps folks coming back for more. Maybe it's the primal thrill of stalking your prey, or the rush of adrenaline when you let an arrow fly. Perhaps it's the challenge of compensating for refraction and leading a moving target. Whatever it is, bowfishing gets in your blood. And let's be honest - there's nothing quite like the bragging rights that come with arrowing a monster ray or prehistoric-looking gar. Our trips are perfect for bachelor parties, family outings, or just a group of buddies looking for a different kind of night out. Plus, you're doing your part for conservation by helping control populations of some invasive species. It's a win-win!
If you're itching to try something new or looking to scratch that bowfishing itch, now's the time to lock in your trip. Our 4-hour nighttime adventures book up fast, especially during peak summer months. We provide all the gear you need, from bows and arrows to lights and safety equipment. All you need to bring is a good attitude and maybe a snack or two. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a total newbie, we guarantee you'll have a night to remember out on the water. So gather your crew, pick a date, and get ready for some seriously good times and even better stories. The fish are waiting - are you ready to make your mark?

Southern Stingrays are a sight to behold, gliding across the sandy bottom like underwater kites. Females can reach up to 5 feet across, while males are smaller. You'll find them in shallow bays, near beaches, and around river mouths. They love hanging out on sandy or muddy flats, often partially buried. These rays are most active in warmer months, making summer the best time to target them. Bowfishing for stingrays is exciting because of their size and unique shape. They can put up a surprisingly strong fight when hooked. Remember, they've got that venomous barb on the tail, so always handle with care. Here's a pro tip: look for their wing tips sticking out of the sand or for depressions in the bottom where they might be hiding. Patience is key - wait for a clear shot before letting that arrow fly.
Black Drum are a blast to target, especially the big ones. They can grow over 90 pounds, but most are in the 5-30 pound range. You'll find them in brackish water, around oyster beds, and in estuaries. They love hanging out near structure and in depths up to 30 feet. Spring is prime time for Black Drum as they school up to spawn. That's when you can really get into them. These fish make a distinctive croaking sound, which is pretty cool to hear. Anglers love Black Drum for their strong fight and good eating, especially the smaller ones under 15 pounds. If you're after a trophy, use fresh crab or clams on the bottom. Here's a tip: when you feel that telltale thump, give them a second to take the bait before setting the hook. It's all about patience with these guys.
Florida Gar are a unique target for bowfishing. These prehistoric-looking fish average 20-50 inches long and hang out in weedy, shallow areas. You'll find them in canals, slow-moving rivers, and lakes around here. They're ambush predators, so look for them lurking near vegetation. Gars have an air bladder that lets them survive in low-oxygen water, making them tough and fun to chase. Spring and summer are prime seasons when they're more active. Folks love going after gar because of their armor-like scales and long snouts - it's like shooting at a living fossil. Here's a local tip: aim for the soft belly area just behind the head for the best chance at a solid hit. These fish put up a great fight, so be ready for some action when you connect!
